Microsoft has recently held discussions to invest in the Indian play-to-earn gaming platform Zupee and has offered to possibly lead a funding round of over $100 million. This is the latest in a series of bets from the cloud services giant to expand its business in the important international market.
“Indian smartphone exports are expected to increase from USD 3.6 billion in 2020-21 to USD 55 billion in 2025-26 which is a 15x growth. As a home-grown start-up, we want to put Indian products and games on all those devices that can take the India story to the world,” stated Dilsher Singh, Founder & CEO of Zupee.
Zupee, the “skill-based casual gaming” platform is run in New Delhi-based, and has received over $120 million so far, including around $100 million in its Series B round that it closed in January of this year. Over 70 million downloads of board games like Ludo, Snakes and Ladder, Playing Cards, and Carrom have been made by the company, which was recently valued at $600 million.
