The town of Vigasio in the northeastern Veneto region has been chosen as the preferred location for a new multibillion-euro chip factory in Italy by Mario Draghi’s government in Italy and Intel.
Intel’s investment in Italy follows its declaration last March that it will spend up to 80 billion euros ($77.5 billion) over the next ten years to expand its capacity across Europe.
Intel has stated that the Italian plant will create 1,500 jobs, plus an additional 3,500 positions across suppliers and partners, with operations set to begin between 2025 and 2027, with an initial expenditure of approximately 4.5 billion euros projected to rise over time.
The Italian plant would be an advanced semiconductor packaging and assembly facility, employing new technologies to weave together entire circuits from tiles.
The selected location is also well connected with Germany, particularly with the city of Magdeburg, where Intel will develop two plants.
