Google Pixel 6a is hitting the shelves this week with the usual specs built such as speedy performance, excellent build quality, and a great camera – all quality features for the price tag of $449. However, this time Google is using a different fingerprint sensor than before – speedier but perhaps with questionable security.
According to some early reviews, unregistered fingerprints are unlocking the Pixel 6a units. If this is an issue on all units or just some is still unclear. The security concerns might be a spawn of specific circumstances such as screen protectors messing up the sensor (an issue that has cropped before) though the reviews suggested that no screen protector was being used in their case. Still, it is early days to comment on whether it’s a major issue present in all phones but it is something that needs to be kept an eye on.
The Pixel 6a is reportedly the first A-series phone to have Google’s Tensor chip that facilitates many of the phone’s flagship-level capabilities. It also has a stylish, two-toned glass back with Material You-style interface trimmings everywhere. Pixel 6a’s camera quality is also strong with an impeccable night vision.
