The American camera and social media company – Snap Inc is launching a flying camera, as the company announced the news on Thursday during its annual partner’s summit.
The camera called pixy is a pocket-sized camera with no controller that can fly above its owner to take photos and videos before landing in the user’s hand. The device will cost $230 and will be initially sold in the US and France, the company said.
“We believe there’s a tremendous amount of opportunity to build tools … that are connected to what we see in front of us,” said - Bobby Murphy, co-founder and chief technology officer at Snap.
The base flight pack includes Pixy camera, bumper and carrying strap, a charging cable and a rechargeable battery. Additional batteries for $19.99 and a dual battery charger is available for $49.99, Snap said. The camera can make 5 to 8 flights using its default flight modes on each battery recharge.
The theme for Snap’s Partner Summit was “Back to Reality,” reflecting the company’s focus on AR. With this Snapchat now reaches 600 million monthly active users as well as more than 330 million daily active users.
