HotelTonight, which was launched in 2011, aimed to revolutionize the travel and leisure sector in the category of last-minute and same-day bookings. Ultimately Airbnb acquired HotelTonight as a part of its IPO plan in March 2019 in a deal reported to be worth more than $400 million.
The company quickly gained traction as it rolled out its mobile-first experience that went well with a younger, more cost-conscious class of audience. Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky said the move was a “Big part of building an end-to-end travel platform.” Airbnb has since worked with the company to build better experiences for travellers based upon its idea of hotel experiences and HotelTonight’s quick services. This partnership is set to bloom after the onset of the post-pandemic travel season.
