Tesla is issuing a software upgrade to keep drivers from playing video games on the car’s main display while the car is in motion, moving, as per a statement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The NHTSA earlier expressed that it had opened an investigation related to covering 580,000 Tesla Model 3, Model X and Model S cars after getting a complaint in August. The agency said it was checking the possibility of drivers being distracted by playing games on the car’s entertainment system, by using the feature of “Passenger Play”.
NHTSA spokesperson said in a statement, “Following the opening of a preliminary evaluation of Tesla’s ‘Passenger Play,’ Tesla informed the agency that it is changing the functionality of this feature. In a new software update, ‘Passenger Play’ will now be locked and unusable when the vehicle is in motion.”
The agency is checking on Tesla closely.
The NHTSA said at the start of this month that it is communicating with Tesla related to the issue of faulty Autopilot cameras in some of the cars produced by the company in Fremont, California.
