Amidst growing concern about Omicron, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest have dropped their plans to send their teams to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Amazon’s spokesperson said that it would not be present at next month’s event because of uncertainty around the Omicron Covid -19 variant.
U.S. wireless carrier T-Mobile also expressed that majority of firms would not attend the event.
T-Mobile said, “We are prioritizing the safety of our team and other attendees with this decision.”
The Consumer Technology Association said, “the show would run from Jan 5 to Jan 8. Health precautions would include vaccination requirements, masking, and the availability of COVID-19 tests.”
Both Facebook and Twitter have expressed that they are exploring online opportunities to attend the event. Pinterest also cancelled its plan of attending the event.
But the companies that are sticking with their plans to attend the event are Qualcomm, Sony Electronics, and Google.
