Meta has officially launched Meta accounts and Meta Horizon Profiles. The global rollout will be phased, but both the accounts will be used in place of the personal social media account logins which were Facebook and Instagram that were previously required to access Meta’s virtual reality (VR) system.
These changes rule out following the privacy concerns raised by the users of personal social media accounts for logging in. To log in and access the metaverse, both new and old users of Meta’s VR devices now will need to sign up for a Meta account. Although Meta is encouraging users to connect using a Meta account, individuals that use an Oculus login will be able to do so by January 1, 2023.
