Meta formerly known as Facebook, is taking its first steps toward building the physical metaverse in the world of virtual. It is discussing to open its first retail stores that will eventually span the world.
The stores would be used to introduce people to showcase devices like virtual reality headsets and teleconferencing gadgets that allow people to video chat through Facebook.
The news comes after a week Facebook changed its name to Meta. It said it is shifting it’s focus is to build a virtual world or metaverse where people can socialize, work and play with virtual reality headsets, and augmented reality glasses. The retail plans could be scrapped as the company is in need of a real-world presence to showcase in the virtual world.
Its Oculus Quest brand would be no longer available and will be replaced by the Meta name. The company also sells Facebook Portal video chat devices, which will become the Meta Portal.
Meta is working on a Flagship Facebook store for Burlingame, Calif, where Meta has an office for its Reality Labs employees.
