In Texas, Instagram and Facebook users will no longer be able to use some of the fun filters. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Meta, Instagram’s parent company, charging that the corporation employs face recognition technology that violates Texas law and infringes on Texans’ privacy rights. This is the reason for the move.
The corporation formerly used facial recognition, but it was phased off in November 2021.
Paxton’s office also accuses the business of using face recognition technology without the user’s permission on its social media sites, such as Instagram. On Wednesday, Meta declared that some filters will no longer be available in Texas, though it denied Paxton’s assurances.
