Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that it is working on its humanoid robot Tesla as it has the most important product and has the potential to be more significant than its vehicle business. Elon Musk called the humanoid Tesla robot, the most important product, that Tesla is developing this year. He also said that the Tesla Semi and Tesla Roadster which was first revealed in 2017 and the Cyberstruck in 2019 will fall behind schedule and will go into production next year.
The first use of the Tesla bot was indicated in August using a human in a robot suit, during the company’s “AI Day” and hoped to have a prototype in the next year. “I think it has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time,” Musk said of the robot, which is code-named Optimus.
“The foundation of the economy is labor. So what happens if you don’t actually have a labor shortage? I’m not sure what an economy even means at that point. That’s what Optimus is about,” Musk added.
The company’s shares fell as much as 1% from $927.93 on Thursday, advancing the stock by 50% after soaring 743% in 2020.
