American Airlines plans to drop its services to Dubuque, Iowa and two other U.S. cities in September, which will lose scheduled commercial air service altogether.
The move is due to a shortage of regional pilots, American, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are citing a lack of aviators. The four cities include Toledo, Ohio, Ithaca, N.Y., and Islip, N.Y following the Labor Day weekend.
“The airport is not closed. We have robust general aviation with multiple corporate and private aircraft, including the University of Dubuque,” Dubuque Regional Airport Director Todd Dalsing said in a statement.
As per reports airport hosts various events and Sun Country Airlines charter flights. Although it is not yet announced if another commercial airline will replace American, but Dalsing said it will continue to meet with legacy and low-cost carriers.
American Airlines said that these four cities will be served by flights at other airports that are between 45 miles and 120 miles away.
