AirAsia’s parent company, Capital A Bhd, announced that three Airbus SE A321 freighters would be added to Teleport Cargo’s fleet in the first quarter of 2023.
Capital A said in a statement that the freighters would be leased from BBAM Limited Partnership. A321 freighters will be converted from passenger planes to cargo planes.
Last year, Teleport began operating its first freighter, a Boeing Co 737-800 based in Bangkok, as the parent company sought to diversify revenue and capitalize on the e-commerce boom.
According to Francis Anthony, Teleport’s head of commercial cargo, the A321s will allow the company to serve key markets such as China from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
In a deal last year with Elbe Flugzeugwerke, a joint venture between Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (STEG.SI) and Airbus, BBAM ordered freighter conversions of at least 20 A320s and A321s through 2025.
